I’m not saying this will work for everybody but cheap tinted glasses from www.zenni.com have changed my life. Doctor’s couldn’t help me but my amber glasses stop my chronic headaches/migraines caused by bad lighting/light sensitivity.
My glasses are amber, but some people like blue, pink, or green. Some may need darker glasses and others may only need a slight tinting. Please be aware you may go through SEVERAL pair of glasses before you find the ones that work for you – IF this works for you. It may not work for everybody.
That’s good! We get headaches from light. When I worked in cube-land, I had maintenance unscrew all the flourescent lights over me. This is great. Gonna try! TY!
I wish they could do that in my office but we have an open office
I have very understanding colleagues, who were happy to let me have the light over my head removed, even though we’re open plan. I’m very lucky, though!
Oh, me too! I now wear dark glasses (usually I just go standard black, but occasionally blue tinted) A LOT. I can’t believe I spent nearly 36 years not doing so – it makes SO MUCH DIFFERENCE!
Sounds great, like to give a try !
I definitely need to avoid excess light to prevent my silent migraines. It is a major trigger for me.
The sports glasses are quite good as they shade light entering from above and sides too. Some pairs are better than others. Because they fit over my prescription glasses it means my noise cancelling headphones don’t sit quite so snuggly over my ears.
I have blue glasses that I use when I’m working on my computer and they’ve virtually stopped all migraines. Glad you’ve found something that works!
Yay! Happy for you too!
I’m definitely going to look into this the next time I need a new prescription for my glasses. Maybe getting them tinted will help with preventing the ones my meds don’t.
After my seizures I had terrible headaches. I was wearing my husband’s dark glasses for a week and they did nothing. Then I used my daughter’s amber glasses and by the end of the day I was fine. So glad you posted this!
It’s called Visual Stress or Irlene Syndrome and accompanies many neurodivergents such as dyslexics and autistics. I had the chance of being assessed for it when I had my Dyslexia/Dyspraxia assessment, but I didn’t go for the specialised optician because in the UK it’s not funded and quite expensive. I’ve got however Celery Green overlays for reading white paper material and also have special computer screen overlay programs. It’s really amazing. It took my reading and computer use related headaches off 🤓🖖
This is very interesting. I have a daughter-in-law I’m going to suggest this to.
When I could still snow ski, I wore yellow lens on the slopes AND while in the car to get to and from the resorts. They stopped my headaches too.
Hooray! I prefer tinted lenses, and have been dismayed at the disappearance of my amber pair. I have an opthamology appointment on Thursday and you can bet I will be ordering my next pair with a tint. It helps with my headaches, too, as well as with my anxiety, actually! I get overloaded by bright lights, so muting that a bit really makes a difference.
Thanks for your post! I’ve looking for a cheaper option for these types of glasses. I have photophobia with my migraines. I hate all sorts of light. My mom comes over to my house and she complains about how dark it is haha Thanks again. I’m going to check it out right now.
I love living in a dark cave. Going out in public without these can be painful in the wrong environment.
update* I just got my purple tinted glasses today and I love them! I mean it has been like 30 minutes, but I swear I put them on and my eyes went “ahh”. Thought I’d share. Thanks again for sharing a cheap website : )
How was the first day???
Ok. Adjusting but it helps with the bright lights in my life sure 🙂
You may need to try a few colors too
This is great to know! How did you decide which color tint and percentage to try first? I’m sure it will be trial and error to find right one that works for me, but curious about how you got started.
I’ve always liked warmer colors and been aversive to the color blue, so I went with the opposite. I tried pink first and then amber in two different darknesses.
Thanks for the info! I just got my first pair of Zennis 🙂
Let me know how they work for you!
Ooo this is interesting I suffer with Mirgraines and headaches. I shall look into it. Thanks for sharing x
Thank you for sharing this website! I have a pair of Axon Optics migraine glasses that have transition lenses, and I love them, but they are not prescription. Maybe this way, I can have a pair on standby with my prescription without breaking the bank!!
I’ve always been light sensitive but always tried to ignore it (and just squinted all the time) – that and im fussy about sunglasses. But i recently got a couple decent pairs and it really does make a difference. Plus good to hide behind. This post has made me realise I could do with a lighter tint pair to keep at home for when the light is bothering me. I cant tell if I’m getting more sensitive to this stuff or that I’ve just started listening more.
