I was afraid this would happen…
I wish I could say that I was surprised by the news many of us woke to on Wednesday morning. However, knowing this country, our most recent election went just as I feared it would go.
Now that Trump is once again officially our next President-Elect, I can’t help but wonder, “Will we start seeing the plan laid out in the infamous Project 2025 unfold before our eyes? Or is it already happening?”
As I wrote in a previous piece about Project 2025 (titled “I don’t WANT to go back into the closet, but I don’t know if I will have a choice“), “It’s chilling to think what we might face if the Christian Nationalists have their way – the criminalization of Queer People for simply existing publicly.“
I’ve seen a few posts recently that say, “Check on your Queer friends“… because, since the news, many of us are not okay (especially those who weren’t mentally prepared for another Trump Presidency).
I, unfortunately, had already lost hope months ago, mentally preparing myself for this scenario (Trump winning) back when Biden was still Trump’s primary opponent.
While many Queer (especially Trans) People (myself included) are feeling a heightened level of (reasonable) anxiety this week, it’s not just Queer People who face threat if Project 2025 is activated.
Project 2025 also threatens other marginalized groups (people with disabilities, the elderly, immigrants, people dependent on government benefits for survival, and basically anyone who’s not cis, white, straight, male, and Christian). Really… Project 2025 threatens ALL of us.
More info on the ACLU’s website can be found HERE.
Even if the next president is unable to enact the plans laid out in Project 2025, the dangers of having a president who openly attacks Trans (and other marginalized) People cannot be understated. Such actions have a way of emboldening those who have hate and bad intentions, posing a significant threat to our communities.
I don’t have the answers right now.
I’m doing my best to tie up as many loose ends as possible in case things get ugly in the coming months.
