I Need YOUR help keeping this blog going…

I’m running a fundraiser with these super-cute, limited-edition Neurodivergent Rebel hats.

What do YOU need to be successful in the workplace?

Autistic and other Neurodivergent people are more likely to be underemployed or unemployed.

As an Autistic person, something I struggle with is traditional employment (unless I can find an employer who is willing to allow me to work in a way that suits my sensory and communication needs).

To be successful in the workplace, I need a quiet sensory space to work and control over my schedule and pacing.

Ideally, working fully or mostly remote is the best way for me to meet these needs (because while I can drive, it’s not easy for me and drains me, especially in traffic).

My communication needs include clear, direct communication, preferably in writing, so I have time to take notes and ask clarifying questions (especially about project tasks and deadlines).

In general, I need freedom from being micromanaged, and the ability to flex the systems around me to meet my needs…

Unfortunately, this has limited the work available to me, because many employers are inflexible and stubborn.

For the past six years, I’ve been fortunate to do work I truly love, which allows me to meet my needs (as an author and as an independent contractor, teaching organizations about Neurodiversity, Neuroinclusion, and Queer inclusion). This work has given me meaning and purpose.

Unfortunately, the current regime has targeted the work I do (and all areas of DEIA), which has significantly limited how many clients are brave enough to book me as a consultant, so I’m exploring ways to keep this blog going and support our family.
