Lyric Rivera, an Autistic self-advocate from Texas, runs the the internationally recognized neurodiversity lifestyle blog Neurodivergent Rebel. Neurodivergent Rebel was opened in 2016, as a way to introduce people unfamiliar with autism to neurodiversity. The blog, which is sometimes released in written format and also via YouTube video, explores the ideology of neurodiversity and the creative expressions of autistic people. Riverasβ blog pushes for acceptance of neurological differences and respect for the autonomy of neurodivergent people. Lyric is also known as the pioneer of the #AskingAutistics hashtag, which is often accompanied by a short question about everyday autistic experiences. This simple hashtag connects neurodiverse people who would not otherwise have a reason to engage with each other to foster understanding of the autistic experience. View all posts by Lyric Holmans
I absolutely 100% agree with you! There is no TV in my house either π I’m the type of person that tries to stay positive & laughing always. It doesn’t always work but I keep trying.
Yay!! I agree with you, too π We watch our share of TV when we get home at night, but we’re selective about what we watch (MTV’s classic “Daria” on DVD suits us just fine lol), and it doesn’t take the place of low-tech bonding activities like wandering, pondering talks or reading to each other out loud. WONDERFUL video, girl – I love your style <3
Aww, thanks Laina! I feel like the videos are getting easier but I still feel a little odd talking to myself / the camera. LOL!
Lol! I can imagine! I love your voice π. I always cringed at the sound of my own lol. I’ve been thinking about making videos for a while now, and it’s really cool to see you do them! You’re amazing! Mwah πβ€οΈ
You are making me blush! I like to prep my materials in advance. Normally I shoot the video about 3-5x’s before I get the take I like. Sometimes I get four-legged interruptions.
Lol you too? ππΎ. That…would be me as well lol. They’d either sniff right up to the camera, knock it over, or nuzzle their hindquarters/tails into it, blocking the view. Or if I closed the door, there’d be this continuous background soundtrack of banging/thumping and meowing lol π
Anyway. π. Yeah, these are really well done! They sound natural, too – not forced. Your prepping pays off! ππΌππΌπ
The critters are always around, they make me practice / reshoot. Sometimes I am writing these scripts in my head for weeks before I feel ready to make the actual video. Every time I shoot the video over it gets a bit better but my goal is to shoot it in 3 takes. I also keep them short so I don’t ramble – because I WILL do that.
Lovely, vibrant vid — it’s useful to be reminded that, though it sometimes feels a wee bit ruthless to distance myself from certain people, it’s essential for wellbeing to have just the right people around us.
Keep up the good posts. π
Thank you! I try to remind myself that I cannot “pour from an empty cup” – and some people take more liquids than others. Energy vampires are too much.
Well said… and I like “energy vampires” (the term, not the vampires!). I must remember that… I sometimes call them life-leeches but the effect is the same, sadly.
Have a great weekend!
Ohhh – I like “Life-Leeches” might use that one.
Haha feel free. π
Yes! What you put out is what you attract. It is so true. I’ve worked on surrounding myself with positive people. It has helped me tremendously. Stay positive! Have a wonderful day.
Thank you! Have an amazing weekend!
You too!!
Great advice!
